United African Technical College (UATC), together with the United African University of Tanzania (UAUT), hosted AI Week 2026, a major academic and innovation-focused programme dedicated to exploring the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in education, research, technology, society, and ethical development.

Held from 11 to 16 June 2026, AI Week brought together students, lecturers, researchers, professionals, technology enthusiasts, and other stakeholders for a series of special lectures, interactive sessions, workshops, demonstrations, discussions, and networking activities.

Special Lectures by Prof. Anthony Choi

A major highlight of AI Week 2026 was the participation of Prof. Anthony Choi from Mercer University, USA, who delivered special lectures on Artificial Intelligence and its wider applications.

Prof. Choi shared valuable academic and technical perspectives on the development and application of AI, exposing participants to contemporary ideas in machine intelligence, robotics, computing, research, and emerging technologies.

His sessions provided participants with an opportunity to better understand how Artificial Intelligence is transforming modern industries, education, scientific research, engineering, and decision-making.

The lectures also encouraged students and academic staff to think beyond the use of AI tools and consider how intelligent technologies are designed, evaluated, researched, and responsibly applied.

Exploring AI Through the Lens of Ethics

AI Week 2026 was organized under the theme:

“Exploring Artificial Intelligence through the Lens of Christian Ethics.”

The theme provided an important platform for examining both the opportunities and responsibilities associated with the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence.

Discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that technological advancement is accompanied by ethical responsibility, human values, accountability, fairness, transparency, and consideration of the wider impact of AI on individuals and society.

Through this approach, participants were encouraged to view Artificial Intelligence not only as a technological development but also as an area requiring thoughtful ethical and social consideration.

AI & Christian Ethics Mini Conference

Another key component of the programme was the AI & Christian Ethics Mini Conference, held on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

The conference brought together speakers and participants for presentations and discussions focused on Artificial Intelligence, innovation, research, education, ethics, and responsible technological development.

The event created an environment for academic exchange while giving students and professionals an opportunity to engage with experts and explore emerging issues surrounding the future of AI.

Launch of the AI Research & Ethics Center

AI Week 2026 also marked an important institutional milestone with the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Research & Ethics Center.

The Center is intended to support research, innovation, academic collaboration, knowledge development, and responsible engagement with Artificial Intelligence and related technologies.

Its establishment demonstrates a growing institutional commitment to strengthening research and contributing to important discussions concerning AI development, implementation, governance, and ethics.

The launch was attended by university and college leaders, invited guests, academics, researchers, students, and other stakeholders.

Building Knowledge, Innovation, and Collaboration

Throughout AI Week, participants took part in special lectures, interactive sessions, workshops and demonstrations, ethics discussions, networking activities, and collaborative learning opportunities.

The programme gave students valuable exposure to developments beyond the classroom while providing researchers and academics with opportunities to exchange ideas and explore potential areas for future research and collaboration.

AI Week also demonstrated the importance of connecting academic learning with emerging technologies and real-world developments.

UATC's Commitment to Emerging Technologies

Through participation in initiatives such as AI Week 2026, United African Technical College continues to strengthen its commitment to technology education, innovation, research, and the development of skills relevant to the changing digital economy.

As Artificial Intelligence continues to transform sectors across the world, UATC recognizes the importance of preparing students not only to use emerging technologies but also to understand their underlying principles, opportunities, risks, and ethical implications.

The College extends its appreciation to Prof. Anthony Choi, all invited speakers, organizers, students, researchers, faculty members, professionals, and participants who contributed to making AI Week 2026 a valuable academic and intellectual experience.
